The Huon Pine Story : A History of Harvest and Use of a Unique Timber

The Huon Pine Story is written in a narrative style full of interviews with old timers and gives an insight into the men and their families who cut and harvested these giants of the Tasmanian forest.  It focuses on the fascinating history of Tasmania’s most important tree – from its early exploitation for boat timber and everyday furniture to its present day status as a rare and expensive craft wood.  The book demonstrates many of the uses and art forms of this great natural resource and helps to forge an understanding of the issues of resource sustainability and environmental management.  It is not a large tree by Australian standards, but by far the slowest growing, longest living and as a timber the longest lasting!
