With the increasing interest in ‘super’ berries and their health benefits it is good to know they can be grown organically, and that most are suited to small gardens and pots. Botanically speaking, a berry is a fleshy fruit from a single ovary.  This actually means that many fruits we call berries are not berries at all – for instance, strawberries and blackberries.  Many others which we do not recognise as berries, such as guavas, mangosteens and persimmons, are in fact true berries or modified berries.
