This book is s a guide to Melaleucas for those wishing to beautify their gardens, particularly with some not so well known and decorative melaleuca plants and particularly those searching for native species in the conservation and restoration of landscapes.  Following a 1999 revision of the Western Australian melaleuca, there were many new identifications and nomenclautre changes including subspecies and varieties with several species being listed as rare and endangered.  Several new additions have since been identified and most changes are included in this book, listing 164 species endemic to the South-west land division of Western Australia.

Melaleucas grow in differing soil types ranging from sand, loam and clay to laterite breakways and granite rocks.    They can be grown from cuttings or seed and their colours range from white, cream, yellow or green-tinged to many shades of pink, red, deep mauve with white, yellow or golden anthers, and offer potential for a spectacular garden display.
